The Namsan Beacon Fire Ceremony and Traditional Culture Festival is a Seoul City-sponsored event that recreates the communication systems of the Joseon Dynasty to introduce Korea's unique traditional culture to citizens and domestic and international tourists, while providing opportunities for cultural enjoyment. During the Joseon Dynasty, Namsan Beacon Tower was an important communication tool that gathered beacon signals from beacon towers throughout the country and transmitted them to the capital to inform of situations. Visitors can observe the Namsan Beacon Fire Ceremony at Namsan Beacon Tower and listen to historical explanations. Additionally, the Bosingak Bell-Ringing Ceremony, held daily at noon, is a participatory event shared with citizens and tourists. At the octagonal pavilion plaza of Seoul Namsan Tower, visitors can watch performances of traditional percussion music (Samulnori) and demonstrations of traditional martial arts. Other experiential programs are also available, including day trips to the beacon tower and a day experience as a beacon keeper.
